10 Things that Happened to Me

I was tagged by Pretty Jan to write a post on 10 things that happened to me:

Homework done. My Ten Things. In chronological order:

1) Origin of Impatience?

I was borned two weeks early. Mom always said that I was impatient right from the start in her womb. And I was borned with a hole in my heart! That freaked that hell out of my parents! They said that among the three of us (I have one elder brother and one younger sister), I got whacked by them the least. As they were afraid of me dying from fear if they whacked me!

The hole slowly "disappeared" as I grew and my last checkup at the doctors was when I was 11.

2) I Hate Dentists!

My first "date" with the dentist happened when I was five. I had a tooth decay and naturally that tooth was aching pretty badly. My dad was the one who brought me to the dentist. When I was put on the robotic-looking-chair, I refused to stay still. The worst came when the dentist came with a needle to numb the pain before extracting the tooth. I leaped out of the chair and ran all over the place. Refusing to face the horrible looking needle.

It took my dad much effort to finally catch me. Was the tooth extracted? Of course! My dad sat on the seat and I sat on his lap. His arms firmly around me while I struggled. The nurse forced my mouth open. But well, I found out that it was not so painful after all.

3) Ghostly Encounter

I used to be very afraid of ghosts. It might have orignated from a movie called White-Hair-Monster-Lady that I watched when I was small.

I had narrated how I conquered this fear in Point 5 of this post.

4) Power of Shame

My family moved to Bedok when I was 10. When we moved there, I joined Pri 3 of Temask Primary School. I was not very used to the pupils and missed my friends quite badly. The initial period of adjustment caused me to lack in attention in class. I also lost interest in school work.

One day, I got "summoned" to the front of the class by my Mathematics Teacher, Mrs Rashid (God! I still remember her name after so many years!). She narrated my laziness in not doing corrections for quite a few consecutive homeworks. I was quite unaffected by what she said until she pull my ear and twisted it!
At that moment, I was so filled with humiliation. But I did not cry (I wonder why??!!). I just quietly went back to my place.

When I went home, I did not tell my parents what had happened to me. Instead, I told them I wanted to buy some Enrichment Books on Mathematics to do on my own. They were surprised by were more than happy to buy for me. My grades improved trememdously henceforth. And of course, I never forgot to do my corrections from then on.

If Mrs Rashid of Temasek Primary School can read this, she might be happy!

5) First Job

I had my first job that lasted one month after my A Levels while I was waiting for my results. I was assigned to assist in a department in the Bank of East Asia for one month. The pay was about SGD7.00 per hour and I was to do some typing for them.

It was quite an eye-opening experience for me. My parents were so supportive of me "working" in Central Business District of Singapore that they bought a pair of high-heeled office like looking shoes for me.

The one month went by very quickly and work was quite fun. I remember that on the last day of my assignment, the whole department brought me out for lunch. I also remember tears flowing down my cheeks as I waved goodbye to them when I walked out the office for the last time. It was a nostalgic moment for me, somehow.

6) One Thing that Never Happened to Me

I never ever win anything in lucky draws! Call it Unlucky Star or some divine lesson that Life is trying to teach me. I was hoping I have one lucky draw win to write about in this post. But it was NEVER! I never win anything by luck. If there were anything I had won, it was by pure hardwork be it in athletic, academic or work arena.

7) Wedding Bells

As some of you might know. I got married quite recently last month. Planning for a wedding was not a as romantic experience as most girls would have fantacized. In fact, there were quite many squabbles between the two of us during the preparation.

As I was confused by the realities and at times even having second thoughts about marriage, I was glad I had the advice and listening ears of my very good buddies.

A good friend of mine told me, "Do not think that only sweet nothings and romantic dinners are good. Quarrels are very important and useful in a relationship if you know how to use them. It is during quarrels that mis-alignment in needs and also difference in views would surface." I am so glad I heard that.

8) Weight Issue I lost about 10kg during the last four years due to work stress. Look at the chubby me in the picture above before and look at my avatar and you would know.

9) Talk to me Softly

I don't like conflicts. I am secretly scared of people talking to me loudly. Surprisingly, my "natural volume" when I talk to people tends to be quite high. Erm... Maybe it's karma at work then! Hence just recently I resolved to try to talk to people more gently. You might see me blog about the results of my efforts in some future blog.

10) The Power of Friendship

I always treasure friends. And I believe that as far as good friends are concerned, it is not the quantity. But the quality.

I am blessed to be granted so many good friends in the world of blogging recently. Janice, for one, has been so concerned when I recently had a bad bout of stomach infection and had to do a series of tests.

As I thank this Pretty Gal to grant me this chance to walk down memory lane to narrate Ten Things that happened to me, I hereby tag the following good bloggers to do the same:

Karen : Thanks for participating in this tag & I get to know that you are borned with a hole in your heart. My younger boy, Amos was also borned with that. Luckily the hole heal up when he was 4 mths old. I was so worried that time that he cant return home with me. He is a healthy boy now :)

You don't look like someone who has 10 more kg of fat from that pic. Your face is indeed slimmer from your avatar though :)

I hate the dentist too. I last time I visit the dentist was last year Dec 06 I think. Before this last visit was 4 yrs ago leh... !! I visit bcos my front tooth ache when in contact with cold water. There's a slight hole, so boh bian got to visit the dentist. I've a phobia of the drilling sound & smell from dentist :)

Hi Janice!

Amos is lucky! The hole in my heart stayed till I was Pri 5! I hated the yearly trips to Tan Tock Seng Hospital. The checkups that they did on me was always so long. And I must be in a big room with all the scary looking equipment on my own! My mum was never allowed into the room! Haha...So Amos must have got special attention from you and your hub right?

Your 10 Things are interesting. What made you blacked out during the church service? Were you hungry or was there just too many people? The one about the eating worms is interesting. I love long beans though!

Thanks for tagging me and dropping by to comment. I really appreciate this!

Blessings!

Wow. Virgin tag of my life!

Ok stay tuned ... need to go research my brain first.

But the problem is ... I'm a bit of a loner in the blogosphere. There's not many I can forward this tag to when my post is done. So can I tag you back instead? :)

Hi WaterLearner,

Thank you so much for your tag! I'm surprised and it's my very first tag!

Yep, I too found the relationship advice you've listed to be a wisdom bite to be chewed upon.

I'm new to the blogosphere and being tagged by you allows me a chance to learn more about other bloggers and to share a little about myself. So I'm thankful for your tag!

My list is now out of the bag... :)

Stay inspired!

Hey Miss Loi,

I am honoured to be the one to "issue" your virgin tag to you!

I don't think I have another 10 Things to write about if you so graciously tag me in return. It is an honour to me. But I don't think it is important of the number of people that you tag in return. Rather the quality.

My humble views.

Karen : The knock out on the bus has got something to do with the pastor saying some words on me while putting his hands on my hand. I'm not sure what you call that. I believe so cos the pastor said that my heart is not open to GOD... I'm not a christian actually. I'm just a free thinker.

I saw the slide show of your wedding. Really blissful & happy for you, Karen :D
